What do I have to adjust to make this possible? Can't I have the picture fill up all the screen like I see at the electronics store with their tv's? Or do I have to wait for Blueray/HD-DVD?

It might help to know what exactly you're seeing on the screen instead of the widescreen image you want. But if I had to take a guess, you need to make an adjustment on your DVD player--in the video settings, you should be able to specify whether you're outputting to a 4:3 TV set or to a 16:9 one. Chances are it's set to output to a 4:3 TV and needs to be changed. There may also be a similar setting on your TV itself to change the picture format.

movies are not filmed in 16:9,sorry. for the clearest, best picture, you will always see a portion on the top and bottom, depending on how that movie was filmed. the electronics store probably used full,or zoom option from tv or dvd player to fill the screen, but you do not get the best and whole picture that way. hd-dvd and blu-ray will not affect this either,it is up to the original makers of the film, sorry.
