with backpacks, you get what you pay for. if you buy a inexpensive one, the zipper is bound to bust out while you are rushing to one of your finals.

sierratradingpost.com ALWAYS has great deals on backpacks

I agree that you get what you pay for. I have had a JanSport backpack for over 3 years now. It has stood up to treks through the Canadian boreal forest in addition to my school activities. It has a lifetime warranty on all the hardware so when a buckle broke, I sent it in and it was repaired, no questions asked. You would be better off spending the money on a good book bag as opposed to going cheap and having to replace it more often.

Backpack questions in this location must have a spot for water and ammo. You might want to ask in the school area

While its usually true that you get what you pay for, sometimes you can get some deals. Check Goodwill or other local thrift stores, post a "wanted" ad on the bulletin boards at school or try craigslist.com Buying used is the best way to find good and cheap.

if you're looking for one to carry you're books in then i'd suggest either wal-mart or target.
if you're looking for to go hiking/backpacking i would suggest putting up more than 30 so you can get one that will last.
