Sounds like ringworm - which is a fungal infection. It's highly contagious and needs to be treated both with oral meds and topically. Make sure you are washing all hair products, pillow cases and hats with hot water and perferrably, bleach.

If it's crusting, then that probably means the medication is working and it was a fungal infection. Do they itch? How big are the spots? Would be helpful to see a downloaded photo, but I would say if the medicine seems to be working (no more new bumps appearing), then the second doctor is probably correct. I would ask the doctor for a medicated shampoo and soap that will help with the flaking.

Sounds like chicken pox to me, but what do I know.....I wouldn't touch him too close if I were you, if your doctor says it's that serious, at least try a hospital, if it iches, and he's a small todler that'll cry if he can't stop itching, try equate brand icthing cream at wally world, Go head and take your son and ask the people in the medicine/pharmacy department what they think is wrong, I know that they're just pharmasist, but they know about these things, at least they helped me out when I had an allergy on my hands from a new hand soap.

Could be a fungal infection, could be something else. If the second doctor wasn't a dermatologist, I'd see if you can get her an appointment with one just to get another opinion on it.

yes, sounds fungal to me. ask the doctor to prescribe a shampoo. or you could purchase selsun blue shampoo and sulfur 8 hair conditioner to sooth the scalp. you can purchase blue star ointment and mix it with lotrimin cream over the counter the box will say its for athlete's foot and jock itch but it is an antifungal.

It sounds like excema or possibly chicken pox but I'm not an expert. See a dermatologist (a doctor who specialises in skin problems) about it.

I would bet the second doctor is right. My son had the same symptoms, diagnosed as fungus and it took two courses of the medication to clear him up...but it did finally clear.
