That really shouldn't be so surprising--all those contradictions is why there are so many religions, even within the Christian religion. There are Catholics and Protestants, and then the Protestants are broken down into Lutherans, Methodists, Baptists, Presbyterians, etc. Oh and there's Evangelists, Jehovah's Witnesses, etc. etc.

I do not belong to any specific faith, I am a Christian and that's all there is to it. If you read the New Testament, Jesus says that the laws of the Old Testament basically do not apply anymore--since He has come, and He tells us what rules to follow now...basically He preaches to us the Golden Rule--Treat others the way you would want to be treated. But he also says that if a person chooses not to follow his new rules, they can still obey the Old Testament--it would just be a lot of unnecessary restrictions.

Btw...the Old Testament is nothing like the New Testament. The OT is WAY more strict than the NT. You should read them sometime, it's very interesting, and will make you feel lucky that Jesus came and saved us from all that.

Why is it that people assume because we are Christian we are perfect? No one is perfect not you, not me, and not the two people who answered that question. I for one am Christian , and I am also a Christian who does not claim to know everything.

This is why I do not answer questions that I know I do not have the answer to. I don't answer questions on Evolution because I am not in full knowledge of the Christian view on it, and even if I were I would still not answer because I can not honestly say that God did not create Adam from the dust of a decade monkey...

So why argue that? I do not have complete knowledge of the entire Bible so there for I do not answer questions as though I am I do know that I have read scriptures that say we are not held bound to all the old laws of the Old Testament and I have heard different pastors preach on that fact, however I will not tell you I know for sure God reveals things to us in his own time everyone has their own season.

But this is just my opinion, so just as I am one person with one opinion I can respect that others may have their own this is why people should not generalize an entire group of people because we do not all think the same...

The first quote is from some one who doesnt know what they are talking about or is confused. One of those Christians not reading the Bible and yet quoting to make us all look like jackasses.

There are different answers b/c there are many different Christians. It all stems from this crap about interpretation. The latter of the two quotes is true. Although the old law is unnecessary to practice, it should not be disregarded for learning purposes. Were you really curious about it or did you just want to Christian bash b/c two contradicting quotes does not constitute constant contradiction among Christians. God Bless

The Old Testament was the covenant between Abraham and God. The Jewish nation had hundreds of laws to abide by, the 10 commandants are only a few. No one could possibly live up to all the laws, you would have to be God. Who, is God in this life, not you and not I. The Old Testament shows you that man needs a Savior from the law of sin and death. Jesus fulfilled all the laws of the Old Testament, He is the only perfect one who can approach a perfect God. The New Testament is the works of Christ that sets men free from the burden of all the old covenant laws. The Old Testament is rich in History and a great fore shadowing of the coming of our Savior. Sorry if we confuse you, but if you just remember the OT tells you, you need a Savior and the NT brings you to Him, it is not so confusing. God Bless and Merry Christmas

Do you not know that there are MANY divisions among christians? Just as Paul says there is in the Bible, and it's true! Many people have become stuck in believing one part of scripture while others are stuck on other parts....when we need to be relying on the Holy Spirit to teach us, and not be divided, yet this is the way Paul said it would be and it has been for many years..... a lot of christians disagree on small subjects and big subjects in the Bible. Now to answer that question- The OT is definatley relevant, and God teaches us through all scripture, not just through the NT. BUT we are under a New Covenant, through Jesus Christ, so we are not under the Law anymore, but under the grace of Jesus Christ. ( See Romans- all of it!)
Yes both are valid- this is actually not two different answers you gave- I just do not think you understand what they are saying. We should always abide by the commandments- anyone who is saved in Jesus Christ would want to...for we are a new creation through Him! But we must remember it is by HIS GRACE we are saved, and now live under....not the law- The law however is sooo important, especially to show others they have sinned against God, it helps one understand why they need Jesus.

Romans 3:20
Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin.

Christianity is an umbrella term for any people who believe in one God and that Jesus is the only Son of God etc. etc. etc. There are many denominations, each with theological differences. And then, heck, even within a single denomination you will have theologians with extremely different opinions on the same topic.

When you ask questions on a forum like this, you are bound to get answers from Christians of various denominations who have various levels of theological/biblical understanding and/or education.

There was a man called Jesus
I think that much is true,
he was a Jewish teacher
and oh, a liberal too.

He died for many reasons
or so his story tells,
and after many seasons
along came loud church bells.

Religions popped up every were
to make the people fear,
they gave the world oh quite a scare
and mind control would stir.

They waxed and weaned to instill fear
and folks would think its real,
but I know that its just a smear
so that is the real deal.

So his demise was for us all
but yet we cant stay cool,
the bible keeps us standing tall
or could you be a fool?

I am ashamed for all of you
religion, sects and fads.
for changing the entire truth
you all just make me sad.

The bible and koran as well
have caused for much blood shed,
so all of you will go to H.ell
for the garbage you had us fed.

Not only christian contradict others. other religious also have the same problems. The silas are for people to control their behaviours. Christian is also have the commantment to control but human being will love to have a easy life to omit some of the silas. Whatever you can follow and whatever I cannot follow is the contradict and arguement. I would not follow you or you will not acept mine is coming up. If we go into the silas coming up, will be the history people was commiting sins. The hollyman tried to stop and put out the silas.

Well, if you can even imagine... there are about 30,000 DIFFERENT religious denominations in the world today. And most of them are found [here] in the U.S.A., which is considered to have a majority of so-called 'Christians'.

Hope that answers your question somewhat. It's all a matter of interpretation of the Scriptures. And that number keeps growing each day and in every which way...

Peace be with you.

Because Christianity is not united.

There is Catholicism which teaches one thing, Protestantism which teaches slightly differently, and there are about 30,000 Protestant denominations that teach different things from each other.

And then there is the Greek Orthodox who teach differently again.

But the one thing that all Christians agree on is that God is a Trinity and He took flesh in the form of Jesus Christ and Jesus redeemed us on the Cross.

This division in Christianity is a scandal, caused by sin on all sides in the past.

We must work and pray for true union again.
