I've seen my grandmother do it. I have a batch of homemade fries, and wanted to know if I put a crockpot on high with my oil in it, can I fry them?

The answer is no. She may have been using a deep fryer which looks somewhat like a crockpot. Crockpots are a low temperature cooker which cook very slowly...over the course of 7-8 hrs.

No, what your Grandma had looked the same but it was not. A crockpot does not get hot enough and it was not made for frying. Just fry those potatoes in a skillet.

Before the oil could get to the boiling point, it would have to be on high for several hours. So no, use a deep frying pan or deep fryer (which is what I suspect you saw your Grandmother use) instead. Or maybe she used a pressure cooker?

I don't think so - a crock pot doesn't get hot enough for the oil to be effective...I could be wrong but a frying pan or deep fryer would be much better.

I am very surprised that your grandmother was able to do this. Most all crock pots do not get hot enough to heat the oil to fry anything.

I would say what your Grandma is using is NOT a crock pot. They have the newer deep fryers that do look like crock pots. There is no way a crock pot would get hot enough for the oil. Call your Granny and ask how the helk she is doing it.

Temp in a crockpot is entirely too low. It is for SLOW cooking. not frying. Use a pot or a frydaddy.

if the oil gets to 350-360 degrees, yes.
most crock pots will not do that and.....
they are not designed for frying.
