Oh Honey, I feel for you. My daughter just had this done. She slept a lot because of the medication, so sleep as much as you can. We also bought baby food & jello for her which helped. Good Luck to you.

OOOH.. I can't answer all your questions since I had my tonsils out when I was 5 yrs. old. Back in the Caveman days! lol But I do remember it all. Back then they put you out with ether. Now it's a nice anesthesia that they will put you out with and you won't feel like you're being smothered to death as in the days of old, when they held the cloth full of ether over my mouth and held my arms and legs down.. Really! It's not like that anymore.. When you wake up, you will have a very sore throat. Don't try to talk and only sip liquids and ice cream, jello etc. The hospital will order what you can eat and drink.. You will have a sore throat for at least a week but with pain meds, whatever the doc gives you, you should be able to handle it. I'm not sure of the length of hosptial stay, but with no complications they boot you out of there fast these days.. I do remember that I got a complication after going home.. I had shooting pains going up the sides of my jaws to the ears. The doctor told my mom that it was called pressure pains and it would go away on it's own.. It did but it wasn't fun.. That doesn't happen to everybody.. So, best advice, don't worry. Just get it over with and if in pain, take the meds. You'll be fine.. Good Luck

Before surgery your so busy talking to different nurses and anethesioligists and the like you don't have time to be nervous or scared. After words your pretty much out of it for 48 hours once your feeling better ask for lots of ice chips!! They usually have tv in the rooms allbeit no good stations but it helps you go to sleep at night :)
