I agree! If only they asked, we'd probably say yes, anyway (true, their legs ache sooner than ours, after all). I can't stand the fact that they look down on our kids for lacking manners when they can't be bothered to model it...

Because we have sore feet when we have been shopping and get very tired very quick. You young people have good legs and appendages so you don't understand. Plus prodding and pushing sometimes is the only human touch we ever get. Many a time I have prodded someone in the back in a queue just to remind my self that sometimes there is warmth coming from people and they aren't just a vast sea of faces with no real human interaction. And although sometimes we may seem rude its because there are no smiles left for us in the world. I hope I see a smile today. xx

Some think that age has a privilege. Maybe some of those old people are hurting or ill. Prolly some are gits that think the world is their's. Yes, it is rude. No argument there!
By the same token, why not be kind to an older person and offer to let them go in front, especially if they look tired or ill. It never hurts to be nice on occasion.

Because as a young, healthy and fit person you should be stepping aside and letting them to the front of the line. Put yourself in their place. Do you really think that in 50-70 years you will have the strength, stamina, and patience you have now. I have seen younger people practically knock over the elderly and people with disabilities in order to get to the cash register first. I think that these older people are simply standing up for themselves and being assertive. Respect and manners left his country a long time ago.

OAP's have this belief we should respect them...i was always taught that respect was earnt! You are right, they push and shove with no regard for others while moaning about how the youth of today treat them......well dears the youth of today are learning by example in many cases so if you want treating better then treat others how you want to be treated.

Many old timers(but not all) feel their advanced age entitles them to everything. So, they push and shove their way around(either physically or verbally). Unfortunately, it makes senior citizens as a whole look bad, and certainly does not encourage overall society to respect its elders.

Oy! Hang on!
I'm old - I don't push in front of the queue.
Not all old people are rude, same as not all young people swear loudly in the street. You just notice it more when they do.

Maybe it's because the younger adults show no consideration when shopping. They stand blocking the aisles with their trolleys, yapping to their mates, let their sprogs run wild and have to pose on their mobiles and sound important. LoL. Chat in the car park, not the aisles.

Because when you're old you basically become a toddler again. Toddlers are even worse at pushing. But smaller and only tend to shove at knee height.
