Anything that shows that you put some thought into the gift and shows that you see them as people you care about (not just as parents) So... skip the standard tie, cologne or picture frame. Maybe some favorite music from their pre-parenthood years or a gift certificate to their favorite restaurant if you can afford it.

What have you given them the last 17 yrs? Reassure them that you will grow to be a responsible man. (aka: Peace of mind) and if you are allready that, give them an evening out on the town...alone.

may be a nice house plant or if things are tight you could make them something we all love that from are kids my son passed away 2 yr ago and i love and keep close to me all the thing he made me.
