Thanks

I'd say the didgeridoo is very unique, also the hung drum, if you can get your hands on one.

First off, someone commented that you should play the clarinet because it's easy. I play it, and it's not. Honestly, NO instrument is easy to play. Each one is hard in its own right. Look into what kind of music these instruments primarily play. Low brass like tuba and trombone will have lots of bass parts, like long notes. Flutes and clarinets will often have the melody, and fast notes. Listen to some recordings of band pieces, have people play their instruments for you, do anything that could familiarize yourself with what these instruments are all about.

In my opinion saxophone is not really unique, seeing as every band has them. And have you heard a lot of jazz music? That's pretty much all it is, saxophone.

For uniqueness, I would say:
harp (you will most likely need to find a private teacher for this one)
french horn
bassoon
english horn
oboe (not exactly unique, but every band needs one)
bass flute (yes, this actually exists. It is a HUGE flute)
Eb clarinet, the contrabass clarinet
soprano sax (a sax that looks sort-of like a gold clarinet, it has a very unique sound to it)

Try playing a saw or a bunch of glasses filled to varying degrees to produce different tones.
The piccolo reminds me of the piccolo player who with a band for a very rich Arab. When they were done, the Arab was so pleased he led them to his vault where he kept jewels and gold. He told the musicians to fill their instruments with whatever they would hold. And there he stood with his piccolo.
Play a Sousaphone!

Tenor saxophone, gutair, some drums. Nothing unusual.

The mbira. Sounds like a mix between a jewelry box and a steel drum, and is super soothing and pretty.
