It is always good not to lose any other language that we know.
The mother language can be forgotten if not practiced for a long time. Too bad!
But, it is also bad to impose a mother language and mother culture to our children, preventing their integration in the society where they live.

Forgetting your language is like forgetting your identity and your roots, that is my humble opinion.
I am Greek and there are a lot of Greeks who live abroad especially in Germany U.S. and Canada and sometimes I feel sad when children of 3rd or 4th generation do not know how to speak Greek.
Every language is a treasure and it cannot be lost. Try to exercise daily your Punjabi and be proud of it.

I think it's not good. My family originally comes from russia, but we don't speak any russian at home. It's sad because russian is my anchestor's language, and I know only a few words in it. I think if I was you, I'd talk Punjabi to my kids. They can still learn English at school. Don't let them forget your language!

My gosh! Of course not! Though I have not, I have seen this happening so often in North America. A lot of Chinese have come to America and Canada and the younger generation can't really speak Mandarin nor Cantonese. When I talk to them in either langauges, they can't catch what I'm trying to say. I find this quite embarrassing. I mean especially when some foriegners can speak perfect Mandarin, and our own people... Oh man, what an embarrassing topic!
