It all depends on where the cruise is going. If going to Alaska you want to wear warmer clothing. Bermuda would be shorts or capri pants. You want to have dressy outfit for formal night. No jeans are allowed in dining room.

it really depends on the cruise line and your itinerary.
for a normal day you could wear T-shirt with shorts, bring a swimsuit for a dip in the pool as well. For the evenings best bring something smart casual (long pants, shirt - shorts or jeans are usually not allowed in the dining rooms). If there is a gala night onboard you better get your tuxedo out of the moth balls or rent one. For the shore excursions it is a bit harder to say; shorts and T-shirt is fine for many occasions, sometimes it is better to wear a jeans or something.
Bring comfortable shoes for the excursions as you'll probably do lots of walking.

Cruising is all about relaxation!!!
Dress for confort, until dinner then its, dress up or dont eat(in the dinning rooms)on deck you can wear anything, even a bikini.
Then there's the night of the Captains dinner and that requires a dinner jacket, formal wear.
But during the day, its shorts, bathing suits, and sandles all the way!!!!

Also depends on what month--even if you are traveling in the Caribbean, the bahamas and keys are still cold in winter.
