Under United States federal law it is considered bribery to tip government workers. However, they are permitted to receive gifts less than or equal to $20.00. It is a common practice to tip federal employees (such as one's mail carrier) $20.00 for the winter holiday; however it is not legal to do so. A non-monetary gift valued at $20 or less is appropriate. A potential tipper can donate money to a charity related to the government agency.

In the past, for Christmas, I've given anywhere between $20 and $50...depending on the number of large deliveries I have...over the last 2 years nothing because my "new" Mailman always delivers my mail to the wrong house...I've talked to him on numerous occasions and even reported him to the post master...but still everyday I have to go to my neighbors house to get my mail.

N E Way...I guess it boils down to the service he provides you. If it's bad NOTHING. If it's just OK...$15 or $20...if it's great up to $50

Most people give about $10 to $20 to the postal worker.

You don't. The postal service discourages workers from accepting cash, so it is just best to give them a present or maybe a gift card. Cookies, a ten dollar gift card to the mall or a restuarant or Best Buy is nice. Or, if it is a woman, maybe a candle or something.
