My son will be 7 this upcoming year and I still have to help him with washing his hair. But we made a deal that I will help him with that aspect as long as he washes his own body. There are several brands, like Kandoo, that make body wash that is easy for kids to pump out and use on their own. Giving him a washcloth or bath scrubbie will help encourage him to do it on his own, too.

If time is really a concern and you need for him to do it on his own, you can try using a little medicine cup and putting just the right amount of shampoo in it for him. But honestly, alot of kids his age still need help with this task so the shampooing gets done right; otherwise they end up with a bunch on one side of their head or they don't wet their hair enough to do the job. Good luck to you!

I have boys as well. At 7 your son is absolutely able to wash himself. Most children will not spontaneously begin doing new tasks well on their own. I would suggest that over the next few baths, you stay in bathroom and instruct him on how to wash/how much soap and shampoo to use. You being in there is just for observation so you can help by teaching "that's too much shampoo" and "you forgot to wash your toes" etc... He'll be bathing himself in no time!
Note: Don't forget to praise him for doing a good job (rewards are always helpful, too). Also, at 7 he will still "play" in the tub, that's fine. He's also big enough to clean up after himself.

We give our two boys a bath everynight. My five year old washes himself up every other night. He still misses some spots so that's why we do it the next night.

i agree he is old enough, just show him how to do it and tell him he is old enough to bath himself just make sure there is not too much water (prevent drowning-hey it can happen lol)and im sure he will get used to it,maybe u can teach him to take a shower some kids prefere that and get him to use to sponges with body wash for kids that might make him wanna do it himself..good luck.

I was told that at age five, they are fully capable of doing their own hair and body. I found this out, after my ex father in law got in trouble for bathing my daughter at age 6.

My son is 6 and he takes showers now, i like to wash his hair b/c I like to "get in there" and make it squeaky clean, however, I give him the loofah and suds it up for him and he washes himself. I make sure to tell him to clean his "certain" parts very well, and I usually hang out in the bathroom "fixing my hair" to make sure he's cleaning himself thoroughly. The idea is to let them know mommy believes he's independant enough to do it himself.

My son is 8. I wash his hair, he washes his "stuff" lol. I don't think he's capable of rinsing the shampoo and conditioner out of his hair but he's able to wash the rest.

no he don't know all the little places to wash ,you go in after he has washed up adnd go over him, this is something you can't put a age on see how he do ,he may be fine ,but I feel at that age you need to check behind him
