My friend has spina bifida and walks with crutches but for the wedding she does not want to use them at all. Does anyone have advice about this handicap and walking or therapy in advance of the wedding which is set in July 2007?

She can have some guys lift her up on one of those Egyptian princess chair that she can sit up but have her feet laid out. Then if she can't stand up with out the crutches at the alter she will need to have a chair that is decorated in the colors of the wedding that she can sit on and even have her fiancee sit on a chair too.

Actually the first time my mom got married, she broke her foot the day before the wedding, and knowing that she'd never get the hang of crutches that fast, talked it out and her husband-to-be carried her down the aisle and settled her into a chair at the altar, My mother joked for years that he was there through sickness before he had to be :) hehehe. For them it was nice also that they had a few minutes to themselves to be together before all the hoopla started (in a time that it wasn't the norm...back in the late 50's) that few minutes Mom always held very special...

So...that's my 2 cents worth...for what it's worth

Nice answer by the way, Oldermenrockmyworld...pity you had to make it obvious you were only here for the points :P

I love most of the answers so far, and I fully agree with the having someone escort her. I was thinking maybe her mother and father; her father and her grandfather; the maid of honor and best man; or even all of her bridesmaids. (Just some different options of whom to escort her.)

Maybe there could be some sort of ceremony where both she AND the groom are carried in on decorated chairs by the groomsmen that they sit in for the ceremony.

I hope she has a beautiful wedding no matter what she decides; you're a wonderful friend for trying to help. good luck!

i agree with the above poster that said have her escorted by two ushers
if support is all she needs (the need for the crutches) then the ushers would be serving the same purpose as said crutches. id like to add though that there maybe a waiting stool at the altar for her and her new hubby decorated to match the rest of the sanctuary

Man! I've been looking at some and these answers and ,WOW! I would suggest going to a medical supply store and see if you can rent one of those Hove-Around wheelchairs and let her go down the aisle in that.

Have her escorted on both sides by ushers. She'll look like a diva.

She might want to be brought in , like in a decorated rickshaw. It can be done beautifully.
