BOTH concepts, God and the bible were created as a means of controlling the people and explaining that which is otherwise difficult to explain without science.

Even though the world and all of creation show that there is a God, we wouldn't know very much about Him if not for the Bible. All we would know is that there is a power out there.
A lot of people today just want to take the parts of the Bible that they like and say that the rest of it is false and not of God. Whereas, the Bible says that it IS inspired by God Himself and that He told people and moved people to put down His words which reveal Him to us.
Since the Bible says that it is written by God, there are not many real choices but to believe all of it or dismiss all of it. Picking and choosing is the same as dismissing it as coming from God.

The HB/OT originated from oral traditions passed down before it was even written down. There are about 4 different oral traditions that are woven together to create the HB/OT cannon that is known today. (This is why there are some contradictions.) Also, all of the original copies were done by hand, so there could be errors. There are also the translation problems from Hebrew, to Greek, to Latin, to many other languages. However, the Scholar's Bible (NRSV) uses the oldest sources and is very careful about the translations in contemporary times.
The NT wasn't written until the end of the 1st century CE, many decades after Jesus died. The books were written by second hand sources, and no one has discovered the Q text yet.
A lot of effort and even politics has gone into the redaction of the Bible published today. If you ever have a chance to take a course on the history of the OT/HB or the NT, I would recommend it!

I am Rational Spirituality Christianity,
There is a good deal of Truth in the bible that could only originate from the wisdom of a Divine Soul. It is, however, put in a symbolical language that most people take literally, and therefore misinterpret it, completely. To understand and to correctly interpret symbolical language requires intelligence.
However, the bible was compiled 325 years after Christ by men eager to control his followers, and it was edited another 1000 times since, to make it inobjectionable to those in power.
If you are a thinking person, and can convert symbolical language into the rational language of the 21st Century, you may enjoy studying Rational Spirituality available on the Dhaxem website. Conveyed from the Source only in February 2006, it had already become the thinking person's modern bible. Many of the fundamental features bear great similarity to the bible, e.g. the holy trinity in the bible translates as the three most advanced Souls on their way to Divinity in RS, the heaven translates to the "One", etc, etc.

No way to know what God had to do with the bible.
The bible( much edited) ,is said to be God's word or ithe inspired writing of man.
In the dark ages , the Church was as much a ruling power as a religious body.
The ignorant masses were kept in line by the power of God's word as dispensed by the religious rulers.
Mushroom management 101.
So , yes it is being used as a way to control people

Yes, God was the inspiration behind the Bible and He allowed it to be put in human language. This in no way nullifies its authenticity or diminishes its authority and power.
2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
It was not given as a way to control the people. On the contrary, it was given to provide the highest incentives for SELF-CONTROL and self-sacrifice.
It was given to enlighten human beings as to the character of God and the requirement for a place in heaven; namely a Christlike character. The Bible reveals the character of God but there are keys to a correct understanding of scripture. Here is one.
Wrong motives for reading the Bible = wrong understanding or misunderstanding of the Bible
Right motives = right understanding
The Bible is an aid in the development of a Christlike character.
A Christlike character is the only kind of character that could enjoy heaven and the only kind of character that can safely be trusted in heaven.
This character must be developed before a person dies or before Jesus returns. We cannot develop this character on our own but by asking for God's grace everyday and cooperating with HIm throughout our lifetime, He will help us to do it in preparation for heaven.
God loves everyone and will forgive anyone but He will not save a single one against their will or without their cooperation.
All these things are revealed in the Bible
Show N Tell

well the only thing your basing your beliefs on are the claims of another human.
if i were to write a book (keep in mind genesis-revalation : are all books, the bible is actually a compilation of "books")
anyway, if i were to write a book and it could go along with any story or teaching in the bible. i could tell you i was inspired by god as were the folks of old. would u believe me? its the same exact claim as made by them. (keep in mind that verse that says cursed are those who add to or take away from the bible - the bible wasnt compiled till years and years after this was written).
*shrug* it was a way to control the people.

No, people wrote and glorified this book that has been rewritten over and over again. Not to mention a lot of them don't even tell the same crap. But then comes institutionalized religion and crams it down your throat to scare the living monkeys out of you to keep you in line.Good old Jesus I am sure would not stand for this. The other point no one ever brings up is a lot of writings around this bible business is meant metaphorically yet these bible thumpers are taking it way to literally.

Do you think that God would send you to hell if you do believe that Jesus was his son born of a virgin? No, of course He would not.
The bible was written by men with the specific purpose of controlling the people through fear in mind.
