You need to tell your friend that you just can't afford to pay for that. Tell him if he wants you to pay for that then he can give you money for the dog. Don't let him walk all over you. That is what he is doing, he thinks he can get away with it. If he doesn't pay for anything then how do you know that he is going to be responsible enough to have the dog and keep it healthy.

He is asking too much. Tell him that you will let her go to a proper GSD rescue centre which will pay for the cost of spaying her, vet check and then will carefully home check the person wanting to adopt her to make sure they are suitable. Then he can go and ask to adopt her from the rescue and pay them a £150 donation instead.
Never ever give animals away for free. What comes free has no value. Easy come easy go. If he really wants her and plans to care for her properly, he should pay. If he won't pay then I would question whether he really wants her or is just after something for free. If he takes the dog, he should accept all responsibility for her and that includes the insurance too.
Heck, why not give him the dog, her bowl, collar and lead, bed, pay for the insurance and pay for him to feed her ....oh....and then pay him £5 to walk her too.
It sounds to me like he isn't committed to her at all and wants to get a free dog with as much else as he can.
I wouldn't let him take this dog no matter what as he sounds unsuitable to me. Try contacting some GSD rescues. They are specialists, love the breed and are more interested in finding dedicated permanent homes for the dogs and are very careful about homechecking etc. The dog remains their property so that if in a years time they hear that the dog is not being cared for properly, they just go and take it back. The dog's welfare should be your prime concern.

1. A German Shepherd Dog doesnt come cheep especially pedigree - they can go from anything from 300 to over 1000
surely you are being more then generous giving him the dog

2. you are paying the insurance when you are not getting the pleasure of having the dog (sure hes takeing him of your hands but come on!)

3. hes getting all the accesories for free

4. he is now asking you to pay for the operation

some how hes not being very fair
by giving your dog away like this you are loosing money , maybe think about selling the dog to another home where somebody will be willing to pay you for it .

hope this helps

He is getting a free pedigree dog..everything included. He should pay for the spaying himself. And if he's not wiling to do tat..then you should find somewhere else for her....he's just being cheeky....if he cant afford that..then he shouldn't even be having the dog..they cost a fortune to feed every month!

Wow. Your friend doesn't sound like they deserve the dog. Are you sure he's going to take care of her? If he's unwilling to pay for essential things that she needs then maybe he is not reponsible enough to have the dog. Yous hould not be paying the insurance or paying for her to be spayed.

Sounds like your friend is a cheapskate. If he is not willing to pay for the price of having the animal spayed it makes you wonder how committed he is to having a pet. There will be other costs associated with owning a pet. What if the animal gets sick, would he be willing to pay the vet fees if necessary.

Tell him to get a pet rock, that won't cost him anything.

Your friend sounds like a jerk. I agree she should be spayed, but if she is going to be his dog, he should pay for that. The fact that he seems completely unwilling to invest any amount into the dog makes me wonder what kind of pet owner he will be. It sounds like he might be the type to put her down the first time she gets sick. I would advertise and see if you can't find her a better home (and one where they don't expect you to continue to pay for her upkeep).

if the dog is a pure breed, he should pay all the costs if hes not paying for the dog. more-so if hes well off and you ant. cant be a real friend if hes acting like that. plenty of people would have a free dog, and pay for the extras.

If he plans on taking the dog then he needs to be responsible for ALL of the care involved in her - including spaying. If he can't afford that or doesn't want to, I'd worry about what else he wouldn't be willing to pay for.
