YOU CAN'T! My dad drove his car until he was in his eighties; he was failing - his eyesight wasnt the best; he had poor judgement of speed and distance, and caused many a driver to stand on their brakes as he swung out of side roads, crossed junctions, did illegal u turns, and on one memorable occasion, sailed across a four carraigeway road without waiting for clearance, and drove into the back of a parked bus with nothing to show for it but a dented bumper. He drove down the road where he lived clipping all the wing mirrors on the way.
He was, in short, a public health hazard.
But no-one could tell him this. He just drove until he was hospitalized towards the end of his life. He kept the car keys beside him for a long time, saying he wanted to drive himself home when he left!
Except he never left.
I would not have denied him that little bit of independence. I used to offer to drive him places " to give him a rest", and he would accept that. the rest of the family did the same, so at the end, he did little more than drive to the local church and the shops.
Let them drive. It will be your turn one day.

you can sit them down and explain to them of all the danger that is out there when they are driving, but at that age I doubt it they would listen to anything you can say, I see alot of people that age driving, and i agree with you I also think that there should be a limit that you cant drive, just like it is when you can get a drivers license.

its not up to you to decide, the DMV will tell them when they are not in good conditions to be behind the wheel. the best thing to do is just offer to drive. my grandmothers are 80 and 81, and they still drive.
