My heart goes out to you for the "no meds" approach to life, but be careful you aren't medicating your anxiety with something else, ie alcohol, drugs, porn, etc.
That being said, anxiety is a natural event and can often be overcome by simply sitting through it. Specifically, if you're afraid of heights, go sit on your roof and remain calm until the anxiety about being high up passes. Crowded subways give you claustrophobia? Mesh into the crowd and keep yourself calm.
Eventually you'll naturally realize that you're ok and going to be ok.

At least that's what my counselor said, and it works just fine for me.

There are no natural cures per-say for anxiety but here are some things you can do to greatly relieve, release or eliminate your anxiety when it seems too much.
1. Deep breathing exercises
2. Meditation
3. Massage therapy or other alternative eastern stress relief modalities
4. Exercise- i.e yoga or some other physical activity or hobby i.e music, reading, poetry writing, journaling, scrap booking, martial arts, etc. some creative outlet.
5. Maintain Order- Manage your anxiety by loosely planning ahead, so you feel more in control. Formulate back-up plans and coping strategies on how to handle unexpected emergencies.
6. Sleep and a balanced diet.

Anxiety is worry and fear gone out of your control. Try channeling all the energy you use worrying and anticipating to worse into making plans of action to control what you can, and accept but don't worry to death bout what you can't control. I hope this helps. Good Luck.

Well, to be honest, no natural remedy will work for you as well as Effexor. That being said, if you are going to switch -- there are a bunch of cures you can try that might help you take the edge of your anxiety a little. They include St. John's Wort, Valerian root and Kava Kava. None of these have helped me as much as Effexor has. Unfortunately, the Effexor has the side effects that the natural ones do not. Remember to taper off Effexor a little at a time. If you decide to stop cold, you will experience withdrawals that are worse than the symptoms themselves.

i suggest you research the nature of your anxiety to obtain a better understanding of your disorder it will help you enormously. anxiety is basically the side effects of major worries at times the causes might be minor exampe daily stress or might be big worries that leaded to this state. i strongly suggest you meditate it will help you relax and release all the tension and stress you have built ... you can also take walks at a park this is extremely helpful. also stay with a strong mentality and will to change even when you get anxiety attacks or when it seems so difficult know that you will be fine...take step by step and dont worry you will be fine however taking anxiety pills is not a bad idea..theres treatments that will be one pill for 10-12 days ...thats all...well take much care and have a great day!

The amino acid L-tyrosine is available at the health food store and might help you (don't confuse it with L-tryptophane). I think L-tyrocine works better than St. John's Wort.

I have also heard that the homeopathic medicine ignatia helps a lot.

A friend who has anxiety attacks meditates everyday and put his faith in God and that has been working for him for many years.

Meditate. Exercise to raise your endorphin level. Take time every day to just be alone with soothing music. Keep a journal to find out what triggers the bouts of anxiety, then find ways to either avoid those things or ways to lessen the affect it has on you.

Kava-Kava is a natural anti-anxiety herbal substance that comes in capsules at any pharmacy. It should be noted, however, that one is NOT to take Kava-Kava for stretches of time longer than four weeks as it may cause liver damage.

I have read some litterature about panic attacks. But they allways seem to have a more scientific approach and that is nothing I need in my struggle to survive those horrible panic attacks. This is a "hand on" and very practical book. I felt it was written to me. I am sure that you are going to feel the same.

Joe Barry writes exactly how I think. The examples are perfectly described. And the method is genius. I recommend this book and thanks Joe Barry for writing it. It changes your life

there's a lot of stress relief things u can do, like chamomile tea or lavender baths, but REAL anxiety is best treated with medication. it's not a bad thing, and in some cases, can do wonders.
