God had to have a son partly because part of godhood is the Priesthood, which is esentially power or power to act in God's name, which only men can hold. Jesus held the Priesthood. The prophets of old held the Priesthood. President Hinckley, his counselors, and every worthy male member of the LDS church hold either the Aaronic or Melchezidek Priesthood. My husband holds the Priesthood, my dad, my uncles...it is a blessing our Heavenly Father has given us. The power of the Priesthood is the binding power that seals families together for time and all eternity.

The key words are "unique" and "self-sustaining".
Those two words refute the idea that God had a son, or any partner whatsoever for that matter.
How can Christians believe those two attributes belong to Him, yet force the idea that He had a son, who roamed the Earth, urinating and defecating like all other human life forms...mind boggling....

There is a Mrs.
We are all His spirit sons and daughters. Jesus is His only biological/physical Son out of all of us.
A Son instead of a Daughter because in the world then, men were the only rulers. There's more to it, but it's toward the end of the day and I'm getting tired. Read some of my other answers about Mormon questions.
God is all about the family.

i think/thought about that. that if god made jesus a man and why not a women then the story of the bible (mainly the jesus part) just cant be true. but you gotta look at it like this, if he made a daughter, the outcome would be the same. jesusa (lol) would come back, have been stoned (instead of on the cross) and came back to life. men would complain about jesusa not being a man and so on the cycle repeats... then again..why couldnt mary have twinz? she could possibly have had them and men just wouldnt put up with that. would they?....for all we know jesus could have been a women....(its probably a negative for that one)....for all we know god could be women... or not have a gender at all...

Just because a Mother in Heaven isn't mentioned in the scriptures does not mean She doesn't exist.
Christ was chosen as the Only Beloved in the flesh, to carry and convey His Holy Priesthood to those apostles He would ordain to go forth and preach His word.
Although women are equal in importance, only men carry the priesthood of God so they can act with authority in His name. Women have their divinely called stations in life and in immortality.

Don't know.I guess being a man,I never put any thought into it.Don't worry about Davinci, hopefully he will come around before he runs out of time.
That's the way God wanted it.It's not our job to question, but to have faith in the direction he leads us and to glorify his name.
Nothing takes God by surprise.Have faith child he is still in control.

perhaps at the time the story was told women were not listened to. and the story teller believed that a male would have more impact. perhaps it was a roll of the dice as to which gender is portrayed . perhaps if there is a god the sex of such a being would not matter.

actually Yahweh/El used to have a wife/consort named Asherah but the high priesthood did away with her considering her popularity a threat to their male dominion.

God likes patriarcies. He needed to have a male heir so he had a son.
