I guess go to church, pray, and read the bible, if that's your belief.
God gave us free will too, though. So you should also try to use at least a little of that in determining your best life path.

Great question! The first step is to silence human thought. With a human agenda screaming in thought 24/7, one can't hear the heart and this is where the still, small voice comes to guide and rescue. Jesus said to go in the closet, and he meant that we need to be quite (human thoughts) to be able to hear.

John 17:3, this is what Jesus said in prayer to his Father, without knowledge of God's Word, how would anyone know what God's Will is.
This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ

In order to know what it is someone wants you to do for them it would help to first get to know them... talk to them, spend time with them, etc.
So, my first step would be to begin praying, reading the bible and get to know who God is and who you are in Him.

read and study the bible. have daily chats with God, its about relationship :)
