Last night, I received a speeding ticket outside of Syracuse. The ticket is for 91 in a 65. However, I do not think I was going this fast. It was very dark out, there was alot of traffic, and I was in the middle lane in a pack of probably forty cars. However, I do drive a bright red car, and that may have been why I got pulled over. I do not want points on my license, or a moving violation, and I do want to dispute the ticket. I dont know if I should contact the court beforehand and see if I can take defensive driving, if I should go to court and hope the officer does not show up, or if I should go and try to have it reduced! Any advice is appreciated! Thank you!

First of all, the officer isn't required to show unless you choose a trial. Which if you do its going to cost you quite a bit more money.
Secondly, if its that big of a ticket, I definately would get a lawyer, your going to end up paying either way. (I am a paralegal my bf had the same ticket for the same amount and in the same area and it would have cost him $400!!! Now its only disobeying a traffic device which is about $150)
If you don't get a lawyer and you end up doing this alone, I would definately read up on some case law and such regarding traffic cases and maybe get some legal advice on what to do or say to the DA and the Judge.

Good Luck!

You have two choices:
1) Turn around, bend over, and leave your wallet also.
2) Plead not guilty, request a jury trial, and follow through with court. It will cost you nothing if you win. Do not accept a judge trial. The judge gets paid with the money he fines you. Plead your case in court to the jury. Cross examine the officer. Present your story. This is your right. Don't throw it in the trash along with your paycheck and dignity. The state has to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that you were speeding.
p.s. You cannot take def. driving if 25+ over the limit.

Always appeal any speeding ticket. The cops aren't required to show up at traffic court anymore.

talk to a lawyer who deals with that type of thing, you may not even have to go to court.

just pay the ticket and the lawyer...and ask to have the points reduced.

Contest the ticket. You should definitely use a lawyer. This guy is supposed to be good.
