In a perfect world that probably would be right but if you were brought up by people who didn't know how to love unconditionally, then you are probably warped to some degree or another. I was told that I was "bad" for as long as I can remember. My parents didn't actually mean that I was defective (or maybe they did) but how am I, as a 2 year old child, am supposed to know what they mean other than what they tell me? They are the parents. They are in charge. And add an occasional beating to the verbal onslaught and one ends up a pathetic misfit that doesn't deserve to breathe the same air. Look around. Everywhere you see drug addicts, alcoholics, and people who cut and burn themselves as a way to escape the way they feel. It's pretty obvious that self love isn't a big issue in the USA. But self hate is. So hence the God trap- Let Jesus love you- because you really are a pile of Cr*p!

Yes, very profound wisdom displayed here...very impressive

Love of self precludes Love of others..and is then the natural human condition, with Love other forces are unleashed

The human condition is such that this is necessary for if the reverse holds true, hate becomes the human condition and we would not survive...

The only precondition for this is that Love of self does not exceed Love of others, then comes understanding and tolerance...

The human condition and experiences are impermanent and fleeting including self centered Love it is therefore necessary to rid one's self of this cause...to do this one must therefore give of love without the necessity of its receipt....we must truly love ourselves to accomplish this....

The First Noble Truth is that there is suffering...understanding suffering requires an understanding of the true nature of Love...this includes the understanding of the Second Noble Truth...that suffering is caused by self centered craving and this includes craving for fleeting feelings like self centered Love...it follows then that real Love is not self centered but outwards flowing and has no relationship to the former and the giver is excluded thereby relieving the giver of suffering from that craving and therefore that cause of suffering.....

A profound wisdom...you are truly a human on the Path....

May others see and understand and show tolerance towards all...

Peace....

There are too many people who do not love themselves. That is sad. It is important to love and respect yourself.

Yes, and God made man and determined he was very good. This means we should love ourselves. However, don't confuse self-aggrandizing and selfishness with self-love.

No it is not, some of us think we do disgusting and horrible things and can't stand ourselves but we can't seem to stop. We have given up on our salvation.
