I plan to buy her other stuff, but I'm just wondering generally as another gift if it would be OK to get some gift vouchers to spend in her favourite clothes shop. I know vouchers don't say "I love you" like other stuff, but I am gonna get other stuff too. What do you think? It shows that I know her favourite shop, right?

Honest opinions from girls please! And guys too, I guess! I plan to buy her other stuff too, but, you know - it's really hard to buy for girls.

This is not an easy question, as the responses so far show! I used to enjoy shopping for gifts, for whatever celebration, but as the years have passed, so I have become lazy: and I have resorted on more than one occasion, to a gift voucher. To offer a specific gift shows that you have put some thought into the matter, and can demonstrate that you know the likes and dislikes of the recipient. All it really takes is that you sit down and think for a while about the person for whom you wish to buy. There may well be times when cash might be more appropriate. For example, one of my nephews was saving for a holiday overseas, and my cash gift for his birthday was, he said, very welcome. On the other hand, my close neighbour spends a small fortune in W H Smugs, and always appreciates a gift voucher from there. But at the root of it all, as has been said, ANY gift shows that you have thought well enough of them to have spent money anyway, on whatever!

I think it will really depend on your girl. I like it when my husband gives me gift cards for clothing or lingerie. That is stuff that I have to pick out and I have to try on clothes. If he buys me clothes then I always end up having to go exchange them.

I wouldn't mind getting one, especially if you got me other gifts that were not gift vouchers.
