It was supposed to have been landed in Grimsby back in the days when we could fish the Icelandic waters. I have a photo of someone holding up a cod by its gills. His arms are raised in the air and the cod's tail is on the floor so I do know they are quite big fish, but 1 ton, that must have been enormous if it is true.

Count Vos I didn't imply the cod in the photo was the one ton cod.

Im from immingham near Grimsby, ive never heard this but this is what i found,
Common name: Cod
Latin name: Gadus morhua
Record weight: As a result of over-fishing the boat caught cod record is likely to remain safe for many years to come. Although some good fish are still taken every year, a fish to equal the 58lb 6oz record is extremely unlikely. The shore record of 44lb 8oz is also relatively safe, although in the past, before fishing pressure removed the largest fish, cod could approach almost 200lb in weight!

It is amazing what you can do with a digital camera and Photoshop editing pictures to look like you caught Moby Dick on a fly rod.
Sorry buddy but cod don't live long enough to get that big. Not even a genetic freak cod could ever get that big.

It might be possible but it could also have been a ton of cod caught in 1 minute or some other short time frame.

1 ton = 2000 lbs. A 1000+ lb marlin really makes news these days so I would say a 1 ton cod is probably impossible.

Must have been caught in TEXAS LOL, I have handled and seen millions of codfish, and jug one aprox. 5 feet in lenght and that was big, tourists went nuts with their cameras,I cut it up and gave it away to them for meals.Usually a cod that big don't always taste good but that one was OK.However a ton is very far fetched, I would say.
