Exodus - god says thou shalt not kill
very next thing that happens in exodus - "gods people" slaughter 5000 people under orders supposedly from god.

most of us are well aware that murder is the presciption for some problems however it does not advise killing the innocent.
Death is not what you seem to think it is. Note also that the actions for which death is prescribbed either have a huge affect on the community, or they are sin that get passed on or become habitual. These and the community would be better off if that one was dead. It's not like they sit in prison forever while expensive appeals are going on, and it's not like people who will never pull the trigger, and be able to walk away without taking the whole responsibilty.
Actually to me it seems way more fair that way.

That whole 6th commandment thing is gettin' me to think that only people who want things to say certain things think that the Bible advocates Murder.. When Jesus said, to turn and give them the other Cheek if they've been hit, that that certainly means murder... *sighs* But seriously... isn't this based on a non-knowledge of the Bible?

Are you deluded enough to believe God DOES advocate murder? Somebody needs to read the context of the Bible passages properly without any preconceived notions!

What, exactly, constitutes "murder"??
If I shoot a man who is trying to rape my child, did I "murder" him?
If the guy next door hears them struggling and kills him, is it "murder"??
What if I hunt him down afterwards and kill him?
What if he kills my child during the rape, did he murder her?
What if the state puts him to death?
In just that one scenario, we see several different motives for killing. (I could draw several other possible scenarios, but I'm not writing an essay here...)
I can only see one, or possibly two that would count as "murder". Those would be, obviously, the rapist who kills his victim, or the vengeful parent who goes out cold-bloodedly afterwards to shoot him down, although I could understand the parent's motives as well.
The rest would certainly not be "murder", either parent or neighbor would be protecting the child, and the state certainly has the right to impose the death penalty.
Conclusion....All killing is not "murder"

Sho-Nuf = Please. You outgrew your diapers in a mere 3 years. The Bible formed the world's dominent morality in 1000 years which has lasted another 2000. If you are still trying to use OT verses to define Christianity, ah, come on. Get coherency at least.
