Buy a card reader.
Some cameras will not allow a PC to recognize it as an external hardrive and force you to use the software that was included with your camera. If this is the case, I can almost guarantee you purchased a Kodak. Anyway, Find out what kind of memory card your camera uses, and buy a card reader for that specific card. From there you can just plug in the card reader into a USB port, and your PC will recognize it as a removable drive. Like a floppy disk or CD or something. From there you can just highlight the pictures you want on your computer, right click, (assuming you are not using a Mac) select "cut" create a folder on your computer where you want your pictures to go, then right click in that folder and select "paste". If that doesn't work, then there is something wrong with your camera.

One easy way is to read the camera's memory card with a USB Card reader connected to the PC bypassing the camera itself. Assuming your digital camera uses memory card like Sd, compact flash or one of the many variations. With the card reader you can open the camera's memory card in a new folder. The other thing you want to check is the format. Is it in Jpeg or RAW. If RAW then you will need the software that comes with the camera unless you have some other software. With all the digital images you have an easy way to store and retrieve easily is PICASA digital image software. Its a great, user friendly, and handy tool to organize, store and edit. Sounds like a software problem. Try uninstalling then reinstalling the software for your camera. Alternatively go to the website for your brand of camera & download the software from there. Hope that helps. Good luck regarding previous answer, if you have to reformat your memory card you do that when in your camera BUT YOU WILL LOSE THE PHOTOS ALREADY ON THERE. Only reformat the card as a last resort

Sure. I did exactly that today. If you have a Windows computer, it's just a matter of doing the "drag and drop" from the computer drive to the card. Some memory cards, like the SD/MMC and "memory stick" units, have a "lock" on them to prevent unintentional erasing of the card. Make sure the lock is "off" before copying.... I have two cameras, different brands, that use the same kind of memory card and store pictures with the "jpg" extension. I can store pictures from both cameras on the same memory card, and one camera will recognize and display pictures from the other. It's helped me to put related pictures together in one memory card before I transfer them all at once to a CD or do a lot of printing.

Oh GOD - dont install specialist software whatever you do!
Just know that they're on your memory card - you can get them off it through the normal options through windows explorer - just find the temporary hard drive and go in to retrieve the files. I'm assuming its already attached via USB in camera or through a card reader?

we had this problem, and had to re-format the card in the camera, i don't know how it was done, my wife's son (who is pretty sharp)did it and got the pictures downloaded...
you may need a professional computer brain type of person to assist you with this one. (my step-son is a computer professional and i have no idea what he does, except he can make this computer and all its applications and printers and scanners whistle dixie if he so chooses)
i didnot mean to give pauline a good rating, her answer is very bad...you've already done that if it is doable.

you need to install software on your pc to recognise your camera. This should come with your camera. You can try other software thats available like Photo-suite or Digimax and see if they can find your camera connection.

Do you have a side menu??? Or a top menu with import on it??? Or do you need a specific programme (CD software) that came with the camera?
If you have import try that and it will give you a few options....see if your camera is showing on the list.
