wow that is nice to know about. says something about our controls on pollution or for the warmer weather in general. perhaps you could take some snapshots of it and that way people would know it was for real. you could try contacting teh royal soc for protection of birds (rspb) via their website or something.

We have a ring-necked parakeet colony in Kent too.

I guess it's because these parrots are not particularly the most social breed as companion birds and perhaps a bit more suitable as aviary birds. They can survive quite well in the outdoors.

Sounds more than likely, it is a ring-necked parakeet. They are very adaptive to surviving in the wild, nearly everywhere, so much that several states in the US have outlawed the ownership and/or sale of them. I guess they are considered a pest, but I can't understand why, they are beautiful to behold. I guess our local farmers here, can't spare a little with our fine-feathered friends. Anyway look up an Indian Ring-neck parakeet online, and see if that is not what you are seeing---Birdman

There are now approx. 20,000 parakeets in UK and they have no natural predators so this total will increase. We see flocks of them in the London suburbs.http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2004/07/0708_040708_feralparrots.html
It's thought that some have escaped from containers at Heathrow Airport and others from aviaries damaged in the 1987 storm.
