My 4 year old nephew found my old keyboard and is truly addicted he can't stop playing with it. I asked my brother to consider getting him piano lessons, but he says he is too young. I don't think he is too young I think he can really develop a talent.

At 4 most places have a little program called Kindermusic, it's sort of a fun program for people that age, but if they like REAL music lessons, this is nothing like it.

He is not too young at all. My sister is in piano lessons and at the recital there was a 5 year old who played better than everyone else. Its best to start kids early when the learn faster and easier.

he may be too young for lessons, but a good music class would be good. Maybe Kindermusic or Musicgarden. Check wiht your local agencies and see what it out there. It never hurts to try.

I say if he's interested and you can find someone with experience with young children, 4 is a great age to start. If he can sit and listen to direction, he can definately learn and learning is easy the younger you are.

I say now is a great time. He seems interested!

There are special programs designed for preschoolers. You can start by calling your local music shops and asking for references. He shouldn't be pushed into anything but if he is really interested in it then it would be fine for him to attend lessons specially tailored for young children once or twice a week. :)

5 is the generally accepted age.

that is when they have develpoed the brain connections to express through music, rather than just banging and waiting for a reaction from the adults around.

also, he probaly would have a hard time siting through a whole lesson with an adult he doesn't really know.

I think four is just fine, as long as they are lessons geared for a younger child and he's not pressured.

I think Mozart wrote his first symphony at 8! Of course he was bonkers :-)
