OH good luck with that. My dachshunds took 10 months to house train.
We used the cage method and the paper and the bell to go out. Finally something clicked in their lovely little brains that they need to go outside to pee.
Doxies are really needy hounds. They NEED attention. Because my hubby and I work opposite shifts, the dogs are hardly ever alone. So there is less waiting to be let out and less time to eat my furniture. Darn hounds!

Training a small dog can take a bit longer becuase they are able to sneak off and potty without anyone seeing. The key it to not let them eliminate in the house as much as possible. Sure there will be mistakes and sure they will even seem like they are regressing at one point but don't give up! This is how I did it. Crate training is the best! There are many resources online as how to do it so I won't go into details but the basics are: puppy is in the crate unless he is supervised with BOTH of your eyes or outside going potty. Outside going potty should be rewarded right after they do it (and I mean right away!) with a VERY special treat. Once they go potty outside they can have a bit of free time running around with your supervision and then its back in the crate. And NO yelling at them if you see them go inside. Just ignore it and immedietely bring them outside once they are done. Yelling doesn't do a darn thing other than scare them and then they will try to hide it from you. When I had alot of free time to dedicate to my pup he played outside the crate with supervision and was taken out every 1/2 hour at first -- this time increased the more he could be trusted. This whole process took about 8 months and now he is PERFECT! I can trust him anytime, anywhere :) Good luck!

All canines have their very very own experts and cons. additionally, how the puppy is raised could have lots to do with how they're whilst they grow older. All i will inform you is from my very very own adventure with those 2 breeds. I easily have 3 mini-doxies, and that i grew up in a house with 6 of them. they're very dependable canines, yet could be obdurate. Their long backs delivers them issues whilst they age, so be careful or stairs and leaping off of furnishings. additionally, they are able to rapidly and easlity earnings weight. Our long haired doxie is a lot extra mellow and friendlier than the two short hairs, it relatively is asserted to be a trait of the long haired doxies. As for chihuahuas, my sister-in-regulation has one. he's now 9. He has consistently been grumpy with strangers, yet is sweet whilst he gets to properly known you. yet, he's amazingly fragile. whilst he replaced right into a puppy, he broke the two front legs by utilising leaping off the settee. additionally, he presently has a coronary heart murmur. yet, my exposure to the two seems that they are distinctly comparable in temperment. Whichever you come to a determination, ensure to socialise it with different animals, little ones and persons whilst they're youthful. this could help cut back issues interior the destiny. reliable success!
