my hubby makes those nasty-looking black eyed peas too! the smell stinks up the house so bad....i HATE them. I usually cook chicken because that's what I like.

Hello =) To the Original German Settlers of PA, the creature that you eat on New Year's day, will indicate how you will make your living in the new year...therefore, never serve poultry (which "scratches out" its living)...pork or beef is much more preferable, hence the German preference for Pork and Sauerkraut on New Year's Day. I don't cook...I just put out little finger foods...like shrimp, barbeque chicken, chicken wings, egg rolls.
