Mam got breast cancer 2 year ago and survived I later learned that My gran (breast) and grandad (stomach) died from it as well. Since then I have had a massive in fear of cancer as I have learned about the 1 in 3 stat at any age which I am very concerned about. This stat plagues my every thought and I have dropped all plans of getting married and having kids as I fear for my future and bringing kids into a gamble like that especially as breast cancer looks genetic.

Is this a phoeba or madness? please be serious.

I know exactly how you feel.

My husband's family has a genetic problem that causes a particular type of cancer. His dad and 2 uncles died from it.

My husband had it, but it was caught early, and we hope it won't recur.

His brother had a very early form of it, but it was caught before it became actually cancerous.

Our children will all have to have regular screening from age 30 on.

But we're fine. We have got used to it. It's just the way things are, and we deal with it.

So don't think you can't have a life because some people have died of cancer. Get out there and have some fun. Live a little, love if you can.

Remember great strides are being made in cancer prevention and treatment. In the last 10 years the survival rates for breast cancer have shot up.

I hope you get over this. There is a life waiting for you out there. Grab it with both hands.

Hi

The most worrying thing about your phobia is that whatever you concentrate on is what you create. First of all I recommend that you get hold of a copy of the new movie The Secret. You can watch it online at http://www.thesecret.tv It is very inspiring and explains the power of thought.

Secondly, as a preventative measure I would consult a good nutritional therapist and get your diet sorted out. Eating a great diet, getting sufficient exercise and detoxing yourself and your home (i.e. get rid of all artifical fragrances, chemical cleaners etc - you can't do it all at once but see it as an ongoing process and start to use chemical free personal care products such as crystal deodorant). Have a look at the WWF web site for more information on detoxing your home.

Ask your GP if you can get some counselling on the NHS and address your current fears/negative thought patterns.

Stop worrying and start living again. Do not be afraid of what has not happened. Nobody knows when they are to leave this life and the most important thing is to make the most of what you have. Live every day as if it is your last and appreciate every moment. If you don't go ahead and live your dreams you may spend your entire life waiting for something to happen that never does. How much regret would you have then?

It is probably a little of both, but look Mom survived.

What you need is that peace that surpasses all understanding. That Word that says, "I shall live and not die and declare the works of the Lord."

Another Word from God is "No weapon formed against me shall prosper." Every name, even the name called "cancer" must bow to the name Jesus. You need to trust in the Lord and let Him direct your path. There is hope in Christ Jesus. You are fearing your future and your worries and thoughts will make you sick.

Most cancer patients do not laugh and have difficulty with humor. You must learn to laugh. the Bible says a merry heart doeth good like a medicine, but a broken spirit drieth up the bones. Read Proverbs 17:22. This is the immune system. Laughter helps stimulate the immune system and the natural killer cells. Many times cancer is associated with bitterness, resentment, unforgiveness and hatred and especially, guilt and shame. They will increase cortisol levels which in turn will weaken the immune system and allow cancer to begin to form in the body.

Proverbs 18:14 the spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity, but a wounded spirit who can bear?

Stop being hopeless, waiting for the fatalistic end of some conclusion. Get out of self-pity because it is a super glue of hell that binds us to the past. Encourage yourself in the Lord. Fear will only destroy any nutrition you put into your body. Nutrition is important but Romans 14:17 says, "the kingdom of God is not meat nor drink but is righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Ghost."

Your stinking thinking is going to manifest cancer. If I thought breast cancer was genetic, I certainly wouldn't be writing this to you. God didn't put any cancerous genes in man. God said you are fearfully and wonderfully made.

Let me tell you what the Lord can do for you. He can get you to where you do not fear death. The Bible says "death has no sting." Absent from the body, present with the Lord. This is the peace that surpasses all understanding. When God is for you, who can be against you. All things are possible to him who believes. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Fill your day with God's word. Jesus said he came to bring us life and life more abundantly. One out of six Americans will develop cancer in their lifetime, but you don't have to be one of them. The emotions you've been having will actually cause your body to produce toxic material. Fear and stress is killing this nation now. Why do we think God said, "Man can't live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God."

Our only hope is Jesus Christ, Savior of the World.

No its not madness - its hardly surprising with the information you have, but it may help to perhaps talk to someone like your GP about this.

I think you need someone to talk to who is qualified to give you the sort of emotional and pyschological support to help you work through these feelings - your GP will definitely have a list of such professionals who are specifically trained to assist you.

Most of us have phobias about things in life, but they are in proportion to getting on with living itself. All thats happened is that your mind is dwelling too much on a specific concern so its a little out of proportion to the other things that you think about.

The good news is that this is absolutely treatable - and the support you can get out there nowadays (and on the NHS) is really superb.

Go see your GP soon and get the support you need.

I have the same fear! I often cry myself to sleep thinking that i could get it one day as a few family members have passed away from cancer of all kinds! I want to be around to watch my children grow old, have their first girl/boy friends, weddings, kids of their own! You are not alone and it is only natural for us to worry about it!

i dont think there is anything wrong with that. you have a history of it in your family and i would be worried also. but i also would make sure i test myself on a regular basis.and not really let it destroy my future we all do have to die of somthing and if it is in gods will for you to have cancer than you can do nothing to prevent it.but you should not live your life in fear over it just make sure to get checked on and go on with your life.
