Starting in January I will be working from home. I am happy because I can be with my son more. However, I want to be at home with him actively (playing, interacting, teaching), yet still be able to make phone calls and get my work done. Any suggestions or sample schedules??? Also, are there any games or activities that you suggest.

FYI my son is 20 months and very active, yet loves to play and explore by himself.

Thanks so much

Moms are amazing multitaskers. My first suggestion is to get yourself a phone with a mute button and a headset (if you can find one that's also a speaker phone, that's even better). Make lists in the morning of the things you need to get done, want to get done, and would like to get done. Go through the "needs" first (laundry, lunch, stories). If you get to the "would like to" list, let us all know...that's a miracle :)

Also, don't be surprised if you don't get a lot done at one time. If you have a good memory (and show me a mom who does...) you'll be able to piece your way through any task. Otherwise, leave yourself notes or a way to remind yourself where you left off when you had to get the baby, read stories, clean a messy face or bottom...

You can find good preschool curricula at a local educational supply store (the stores teachers visit for their classroom decor and supplies). Do a yellow pages search in your area or look online for home-schooling resources.

Good luck!

Soundslike your little one is very independent. This is good for you. Set times that you are going to make your calls and make sure he is well taken care of. toys foods etc. I would try to do most of your calls during his naps as then you won't be distracted. Good luck and enjoy your time wiht your little boy.

Get a babysitter, its not as easy as you may hope.
Get a speaker phone with a mute button also. Also watch out, babies love computers.
