During the day my mum looks after my little boy Joe (3) when i'm at work. He is fully potty trained & always asks to go when at home and at friends houses. The problem is when I walk him home from my mothers (She lives a 30min. walk from us through woodland) - He always 'Needs a Wee'
I ask him to 'try' before we leave (which he does), but he usually needs to go during the walk - Resultig in wet pants!
Please, please, please help with any advice you can give
Karen (and Joe) xxx.

All you can really do is make sure that you continue to have him "try" before you leave. If you can bring a container or something with you that way when you are walking you can maybe bring him behind a tree or something and let him " wee" in the container and just empty it in the toliet when you get home. If you can't bring a container or something with you then bring him behind a tree or something and let him "wee" there. There really are no other options besides that. Unless you want to get him pull ups or something like that and let him use that to "wee" in and then change him back into regular underwear after he is done.

I'm sure going to the toilet somewhere in the bushes on your way home isn't going to hurt. He cant control when he wants to go so let him go. Keep trying to get him to go before he leaves grandmas, give him another drink to make him want to go more.

30 minutes away is a big walk for a 3 yr old, don't get mad if he does go on your way home remember he is only 3.

listen instead of him wetting his pants have him pee on a tree. i know its not good manners but its better then wet pants. you are doing a good thing by having him go before you leave you should also tell your mum not to allow him to have anything to drink an hour before you pick him up this should help with the problem as well. good luck

First of all, you shouldn't be making a 3 yr. old walk that far. That has to be over 4 or 5 miles and that can't be good for a 3 yr. old unless you're carrying him or he's in a stroller.

Anyway, to answer your question:

I think grandma needs to quit giving him liquids about an hour before you pick him up. When you get there, have him try to go. Don't let him get up from the toilet until he goes--even if you have to wait awhile.

have your mom not give him anything to drink right before you leave. a childs bladder is much smaller than an adults. so if she holds off for 30 mins to an hour than you shouldnt have a problem...maybe try that and see how it goes.... GOOD LUCK!

Have grandma give him his last drink about an hour before you get there. Good luck--

let him pee in the woods, but continue the "trying" before you leave. at 3 years old, he doesn't know any better. also, perhaps limit his drinks the night before and in the morning before you leave, or perhaps have breakfast a grandma's house.
