Imagine this as a right triangle. The vertical side is the building superman is standing on, it is 284 feet in length (280 feet above ground and 4 feet below ground to get to the level of the robber).

The opposite angle then is 34 degrees (since it was said that this was the angle from the robber to superman). The hypotenuse is the distance superman must fly.

sin A = Opposite / hypotenuse
sin 34d = 284 / hypotenuse
hypotenuse = 284 / sin 34d
hypotenuse = 284 / .559
hypotenuse = 507.875 feet

So call it 508 feet.
