I was skeptical but I started using them in my baths and they actually are an inexpensive quick fix for minor pains. but i just don't understand how they work.

epsom salts is the common name for magnesium sulphate. My kids and I use to colour it with a drop of food colour add some essential oils place it in pretty bottle with a ribbon as a gift of bath salts for relatives and friends...

I too do not know how it works just that it does...

no it doesn't. It can make one feel good for a while but it's always short lived. The last thing you want to use on painful muscles is cold or ice water. The muscles are already tight to cause the pains and anything cold can cause them into more pain which you wouldn't feel until the feeling returns to the area or it would keep the muscles tight longer if nothing else. Heat is best on tight muscles and releasing the muscles is best, it gets rid of all the tightness in the muscles.

Epsom salt is really just magnesium. Magnesium counteracts Calcium. Calcium is what muscles use as a chemical signal to contract. High Calcium-low magnesium ratios in the blood can cause tight and painful muscles. Epsom salts up the magnesium and therefore promotes muscle relaxation, which eases tension and pain.

They get the water a little hotter by throwing it into a solution, however, the real concern I have is that it activates one's adrenal glands. I didn't see that as an advantage, it took too long to wind down to sleep.

Yes it does....................i'm not sure how it works but it does........my feet hurt alot sometimes and i soak them and it does help......................
