Why because it is the "Bible" does it have less relevance than any other book of historic importance. Does attempting to pick it apart justify a non-believer's stance? My belief is based in faith, as a Christian the Bible is a road map, not what is worshipped. Salvation comes from the belief in the resurrection of Christ.

I remember my pastor once stating that until you have belief and faith that not all of the Bible will make sense. So if a person who doesn't have faith cannot understand all that the Bible has to offer. Maybe that's why unbelievers want to attack it, they don't understand it.

Of course the basic message of salvation should be easily understood by all that are willing to listen

One main reason is because it is The Book of morality and if they attack it enough and get enough people to do the same , they feel they are in the right. When ever in history, was the majority right--not many, if any. Interestingly, after discussing the world not having meaning or purpose in life-only-one of meaningless, wanting total liberation ,note a statement that is part of a longer quote:
Atheist Aldous Huxley’s admission reveals another possibility, when he says: “We objected to the morality [of the Bible] because it interfered with our sexual freedom.”(*** g81 9/22 p. 19 Is It a Fact? *)**

Its also a defense mechanism--In sports its been said 'the best defense is a great offense.'
As far as history is concerned, think about this , when you were in high school or college--why was it that history always seemed to have black holes throughout our 6,000 valid years?
Its rather simple ,the education system refused to acknowledge the absolute worth of Bible History . You cannot view true history accurately without Bible accounts,--involving real people with real life experiences(Noah, Adam, Eve, Cain,Abraham,Moses, Noah, etc. --involving empires(that existed) dates of great significance, chronologies, accurate genealogies. Here are some factual accounts concerning Bible & History:
*** gt The Greatest Man Who Ever Lived ***

The Historians’ History of the World observed: “The historical result of [Jesus’] activities was more momentous, even from a strictly secular standpoint, than the deeds of any other character of history. A new era, recognised by the chief civilisations of the world, dates from his birth.”

Please note, not only the comment on Jesus historicity, but the acounts about Jesus being accurately presented by his biographers:
*** gt The Greatest Man Who Ever Lived ***

Yet, strangely, some say that Jesus never lived—that he is, in effect, a creation of some first-century men. Answering such skeptics the respected historian :
Will Durant argued: “That a few simple men should in one generation have invented so powerful and appealing a personality, so lofty an ethic and so inspiring a vision of human brotherhood, would be a miracle far more incredible than any recorded in the Gospels.”
So even if we leave the accounts of God's great interventions etc, you still have history--accurate.

There is nothing that can suggest anything other than it is a work of fiction set in an historical setting. In that regard it actually probably falls way behind the Da Vinci Code in terms of evidence!!!

But you said it yourself - it is a faith. You either have the faith to believe or you do not. Those that come on YA and constantly seek to promote the bible or anything else as evidence simply lack the faith necessary to believe.

Questions like this simply advertise your lack of faith.

No body would attack the bible if he people who belive in it do not speak ill of other belief . The christians should not claim an exclusive right ot decry all other religions and require others to keep mum. Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones . the bs policy for any one is not tho do unto others what is done unto oneself by others would hurt .It is simple . look itnot the first book of genesis and see the unscientific and wrong information it has for you . when the very begining of the bible is wrong and self contradictory and wanting , how can those who belive in such a bible speak ill of other beliefs from street corners in the name of evngelism. if you do not want ot be pelted wih a stone , you do npot stat it you self . Hope it is easy to understand . if youwant ot know what is wrong in Moses's genesis , it is this . God said let there be a vault and a vault appeared . he referes to the sky as a vaulkt . thre uis no vault and there is really nothing as sky.God made the man and breatehd into his nostrils and man breated . The same god made all the animals and he never breatehd into thier nostrils and all of hem breatehd and came to life .the world did not come in a jify. it took zillions of years before it came into being by a Big Bang . Every one knows what ligh it . It did not come from nothing without a source . It is formed of phtotons that were created by the breaking of protons snd nutrons in the atoms in the nuclear reaction that is taking place in the sun and other stars .The statements in the first Book of Moses is wrong and cotrdictory to facts .Moses is not to blame . for any body during his timne would have felt only like that and ha we come to know of the actual truth only due to the advancement of science .Because science offers proofs contrary to religious teachings , science if not to be hated and opposed and religons is not to be neglected . the religious text should be corrected in accordance with truth .
We get only what we gie toothers . If we criticize others , others would also criticize us and we are not above criticism . .

it is a fairy tale. that is why all scripture should be attacked. it threatens us as a species. christianity devalues human life. "It's OK to die, you'll go to heaven." Sure pal. Religion doesnt just stay in the church on sunday. People carry it to work and make laws that affect ME. And they are based on nothing. NO, dont do that scientific research, you will mess with the soul of that single cell. Soul? Sure pal. Prove it.

a magical ghost gets a woman pregnant. the kid grows up to do magical miracles. walks on water, etc.Brings people back from the dead when they are so dead they stink. he dies, comes back to life. and then disappears and magically flies up to heaven.

If you believe this you are delusional. Those things cannot happen. And don't say "the bible is proof enough". A delusion is believing something with no evidence or proof while facts and logic clearly indicate the contrary.

And in isalm some guy rides a magical winged hortse and flies up to heaven. sure. sure he did.

if david blaine performed his "magic" 2000 years ago they would think he was sent by god!!!

cure your delusion. it's fun and good for mankind!

You are right on my friend. People attack the BIBLE because it is truth. If it wasnt they would just put it aside and read something else. If you read a novel you did not like or agree with , you probably would mention it once and it would be over- the Bible is truth, and some people chose not to believe it. The bible points to the truth that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life, so if Satan can use unbelievers to keep attacking the Bible some people may not believe. That is unfortunate because one day everyone will realize that The Bible is the truth, and Jesus is the ONLY way to salvation.

I try not to attack the bible but when people tell me that "the bible is the one true truth of god and if I don't study it I am screwed" then I will take it out and look at it.

The problem is that the more I studied it the worse it got. I was stunned by the problems and issues in this book.

IMHO

I agree with justsomegirl. The bible is no more believable than Harry Potter or any other fiction story. I think the bible was all made up. I don't even believe that Jesus lived at all, for I have seen no proof.

well most the theists on here are christians. You ask them a question and the theists on here answer with a quote from the bible. If i asked all the muslims about bizarre stuff in the Qu'ran, chances are I would get very few answers from the muslims on here, and I would most likely just get the christians answer a question about the Qu'ran with a quote from the bible.

All these so called holy books contradict themselves. The bible contrdicts itself way too much. So it not attacking the bible, to me its asking a question about it.

I agree that attacking the Bible is not a useful undertaking. It is hurtful to others because it undermines the religious faith of those who identify as Christian or (in the case of the Hebrew Scriptures) Jewish.

That said, the reason so many are tempted to attack the Bible is because Christian evangelicals with intolerant, narrowminded, parochial views spend so much time misusing the Bible to attack others. Many people erroneously believe that their anger should be directed at the Bible, instead of the Bible-twisting anti-Gay, anti-choice, right-wing, science-denying zealots waving those Bibles in everyone's faces.

That's my sense of it, at least.
