No it is NOT just the simple they are BIGGER and more powerful or the because they have 2 extra cylinders answers you've recieved. If that was ture a V-10 or a V-12 would sound better but if you've ever listened to them you will also know they don't sound anywhere near as good a V8 does either. NOTHING will ever sound like a V8 except a V8 not evena V16 will sound as good as a V8 The reason V8's sound as good as they do is strictly in the timing of how air flows into and out of these engines within an RPM cycle. The perfect timing of the exhaust gasses escaping also causes a specific echo effect that creates that V8 Rumble everyone loves. This echo effect is there with all other engines but it gets cancelled out sometimes almsot completley

A six cylinder engine runs with a cylinder firing every 120 degrees of crankshaft rotation. On an eight cylinder engine, a cylinder is firing every 90 degrees crankshaft rotation. The answer I'm guessing you are looking for is WHY the difference in sound. I can only say it's scientific, I guess. But we are conditioned to believe that a "V8 roar" is cool and muscular sounding, while engines with less number of cylinders aren't. Similarly, we are conditioned to perceive that thin women with big breasts, and nice butts are beautiful and sexy, while fat or obese women are ugly. I hope this explains it best.

you sure it isn't diesel
Just get a V6 because a V8 is going to use more gas, that is important of course if you want to save money

Because V8s have 2 more cylinders, they have more power, and that's what makes them sound louder.

I kind of like that womans' analogy. LOL
A big set of pipes on a tail end of a car / truck does look mighty fine.
Probably exhaust is just bigger due to air flow, therefore a "throatier" or deeper sound.

Per given Rpm, an 8 cyl has different number compression/exhaust strokes per time frame than a 6cyl, and the exhaust is tuned for that.

has to do with cylinders firing for every rotation on a v8 all fire in one rpm cycle on av6 only 6 do you have 25% more motor firing and 25% more noise

it could be your exhaust restricting the sound, but the V8 will always sound better
