My fiance has been in a coma for over 3 months now, caused by a viral encephalitis. Every test they ran came back negative. The doctors have little hope and she is now on a ventalator in a nursing home. The family and I have heard that there is medications that can possibly bring her out of the coma. Does anyone have experience in this?? Has anyone been brought out of a coma and went on to have a normal life. She is 34 years old.

I'm sorry to hear about this. It is documented that people have awakened from their comatose state after an extended period of time, then go on to live a normal life. Of course many of them had to go through many types of therapys again...as in physical therapy, speech therapy, ect. I'm also sorry to tell you that I've never heard of a drug that will bring someone out of a coma. Hopefully I'm wrong. My hope and prayer is that she awakens out of her coma very soon (a good Christmas present for you) and that there are no other problems. Best of luck to you, and her.

I'm so sorry to hear about this, and I understand how you would feel. I really don't believe there are drugs that will do this. Check back with the doctors, or have a consultation with a neurologist.

The cases of people emerging from comas aren't very common, unfortunately.
