A direct translation of "I am" would be "Wo shi." "Yes, I am" is "Shi, wo shi" or "Dui, wo shi." Depending on the question asked, however, the correct response could be different. "Are you American?" "Shi, wo shi meiguo ren" or yes, I am an American. On the other hand, if you were asked "are you hungry?" you might say "Wo hen e" - "I am very hungry" or "wo e sile" - "I'm starving." Unfortunately, due to the complexities of Pinyin romanization and the fact that Chinese is a tonal language, your chances of pronouncing any of the above correctly is near zero.

"I am" in Mandarin is simply "wo shi" 我是 (pronouced as English words "war shir". But in a reply : "Yes, I am", you can either say:
"Dui, wo shi!" 对, 我是 or "Dui, wo jiu shi!" 对, 我就是 But sometimes in a more informal or casual way they can also say "shi, ah!" 是啊 when people asked, for instance: "Ni shi Tang Mu, ma?" meaning "Are you Tommy?"
So all those expressions: "wo shi", "wo jiu shi" and "shi, ah" can be translated as "I am". Depending in what situation your are when answering the question.

To say "Yes, I am" you can say "duì wǒ jiù shì" or simply "duì wǒ shì" however, the first response is more affirmative than than the second. and to write it in chinese it would be "対我就是" or "対我是". hope this helps ^^
