I'm in London and have endless arguements with my mate who is from up north. he says we're anti social on the buses, train and tube. I argue back that we are not however he may have a point. Discuss........

Commuters are anti-social by nature (people doing a repetitive, mindless task which they must do).

This increases with the population density of an area (less space/resources).

So, in your case, South (London) is worse than, say, Glasgow.

Or, in the U.S., Atlanta and New York commuters are jerks compared to those in Susanville, CA or Fargo, ND

Well, the fact that you argued with your mate over this possible fact, instead of having an open minded discussion about his observation, may very well indicate anti-social behavior with you Southerners.
