Put your zip code in and go. If you just put small dog it will give you plenty of choices

Any dog that you get if it is raised properly will be a good dog. A dog should be part of the family and not thrown outside when it becomes a bother. I have been told that pugs are great with a family but can tend to be very hyper.

Boxers are a great dog for kids as well as Labs, Golden's, and many many other breeds. I would suggest doing a little research on the net about different breeds of dogs and go with the one that you and your family choose together! Also pound puppies are usually the best bet because they have so much love to give to a family who is willing to love them!

A lot of small dogs actually are not very good with kids. They tend to be snappish and being that the kid is bigger than them, if the child gets too rough the dog will bite. I would suggest you look at breeds like labradors, golden retrievers, American pit bull terriers, or even just go to your local shelter and look at the dogs there. In my experience, it is the dogs that have been homeless that tend to be some of the sweetest. My dachshund mix is great with my two year old nephew, and i had found the dog wandering by a canal.

Your best bet is a mixed breed. They tend to have better temperments. You should be able to get one a the shelter. I would recommend taking the kids with you when you go so you can see how the dog reacts to kids. No-kill shelters tend to be a little better about working with families to match you with the best pet for your needs, so I would recommend finding one in your area and they can match you with a gentle kid-friendly dog.

I saw someone recommended a Chihuahua. They are territorial dogs and would not be particularly trustworthy around your kids' friends.

Get a mixed breed dog. All the dogs in our neighborhood were mutts and got along fine with kids.

The dog pound or animal shelter will be full of wonderful dogs. Short haired dogs are eaiser. Mixed breeds are always better than pure breeds.
All dogs need access to a place to potty!

Mixed breeds are a good choise and depending on the personality of the family will determain how hyper you want the dog.

How big is your home and yard is another question.

Schnauzer - minuture - only gets up to about 13 pounds good w/kids.

Poodles contrary to belief are not hyper and if raised around kids - love them..

a terrier mix is also good
