Mine ended up 12 days later at a Bed and Breakfast, 6 miles from home.
I had the lost dog announced on the radio, so the people knew who to contact.

Yeah my German Shepard gets out all the time. She jumps over and fence 4 ft tall, so we built her a 6 ft tall fence and she squeezed through the gap between the house and the fence post (about 6 inches) and got out yesterday. We are still fixing the fence but she is just too smart. We also have to make sure her dog house isnt too close to the fence because she also knows (from being in a 6ft tall kennel) that if the house is against the fence she can jump on the roof and then jump over the fence. Luckily when she gets out she just runs to the creek down the road and then comes home and waits in the yard for us to get home. She is very smart, but yet dumb enough to keep getting out and getting in trouble. She knows she is in trouble because she comes to the car with her ears back and her tail between her legs looking like "I'm sorry. Don't be mad" It sounds like your dog has a lot of school spirit.

The first week we lived in our house, my dogs went to school. Got picked up by animal control. I only had to pay 1/2 price, because when the officers opened the door to get the dogs, both jumped in...ready to go for a ride!
The second time (only had my male at this time), he ended up at the neighbor's house across the street from the house my In-Laws had moved from...guess he wanted to see Grandma and Grandpa (lived in the same neighborhood-different streets). Called police DP to see if anyone had reported a loose Rotti in the neighborhood, and found out where he was...went to pick him up, and an officer was keeping an eye on him. No charge this time.

I had 1 dog that got out and got killed on the highway. Another one got loose and ended up in jail and I had to bail him out. The last dog I had was a bit unusual. This crazy dog could climb over a 7 foot fence in my backyard. He would go to the neighbors yard for a while and then jump that fence and roam around the area. This one also got picked up by animal control and I had to bail him out as well.

A friend had two of hers run off today. She live near the woods and the dogs insist on eating the fence.
I feel bad she doesn't cry as much as she used to but she still gets so upset and her husband and mom ignore her. I told her to fire up the grill and put hot dogs on they'll come back.

Yes, and he killed a neighbor's chicken. She called the cops, pooch got busted. We did not know it, looked for pooch every day. Finally we checked the pound, and they had him. When we got there he was on death row. Just a few more minutes and he would have been 'dog gone'. That sounds funny, but it is true. Dogs can get into trouble in some places.

just once. Left one of the side gates open and puppy got out, to my surprise the only thing he did was go around to the front porch and fall asleep at the front door. Still had me paniced because we were looking for him for a while around the streets, had no idea that he stuck soooo close to home.

My fully trained Dobie escaped and I looked for her every where.
Scared to death that she might hurt someone.
I contacted the vets in the area and contacted the animal control & the local schools in the area.
She had gone down to the local shopping Center and got in the back of a pick-up truck (simular to mine) and would not let anyone get close. A kid in the family heard about her at school and I was called and I went to get her.
I was very glad she was safe and hadn't hurt anyone and she was very to see me. She had spent the day and one night in the back of a strange pick-up.

I never let the dogs i have currently out of the yard unless i can supervise them. And thankfully no one is careless enough to leave the gate open. I used to have a male chihuahua that would get off of his leash while i was walking him, but he would just run home. Is your dog spayed? If she isn't, that could explain why she likes to wander off.
