Consequences depend on where you made report. In CO is Class 3 Misdemeanor meaning min of 50 bucks, max 6 mo jail & 750 bucks. Tell lawyer. Recant (take back) report. The longer you wait and cause time to be spent on prep for prosecution and waste judges time the worse it will be. Get statement, sworn affidavit, something from accused person that they hold you harmless, desire no complaint against you, etc. Have lawyer give to District Attorney ASAP. Get an MD to put something in writing that you are PG. Also give to DA. Acknowledge you were wrong (bypass cops) and request community service if you plea no contest to a lesser offense. FR is in same category as obstruction, concealing, impersonation, etc. Documents are sworn under oath because of your report and warrants issue or arrests happen. Not treated lightly. DA's, Judges, etc. have little time for cases. Move fast. Let them clear the docket ASAP. Let the lawyers (not cheap) inform police that appearance not needed in court. BF? What is that?

In Michigan the false report depends on what crime you are filing on. If you are filing on a false misdemeanor (punishable by less than one year) claim then the false report is a misdemeanor. It is the same if you are filing a false felony report....it is a felony.
Seriously, if you were the victim and are now thinking about not going through with the charges then read the two following web pages. There is help out there. You are not alone.
This one shows the cycle of violence

This one is the National Domestic Violence Hotline.

He wouldn't have gotten into trouble if he had t filed the report because of the freedom of speech act obviously but he will only sent a night or two in jail for that and then will be sentenced to court and the jury will decide whether to serve a month or two in county lock up or just plain pay a fine, you wont know til it's decided

In Canada it's called Mischief (or possibly Obstruct PEace Officer) you can get into trouble but when we're approached by someone who says "I screwed up" and they come clean we usually work with them, especially if there was an assault but the facts were exagerated. In a situation like like we're not going to charge the victim just because she wasn't enough of a victim.
My suggestion, tell the officer in charge of the case what the situation is.
Also tell your family in the future to leave these major decisions to you if they can't hold HONESTY as a value when speaking with Police.
And of course, if it's an abusive relationship get out now! It does NOT get better, the cycle just gets harder to break.

At least fraud, and possibly a crime of its own. Don't tell his lawyer, tell a different lawyer. Just try to drop the charges and get the heck out of the relationship. DO NOT tell his lawyer. you will get in a world of trouble.

Tell the truth....in Tn. a false report is classified as a Felon...and should be....false testimony against another person is low...you have abused the justice system and you should throw yourself to the mercy of the courts...as for him...well he needs to get the hell away from you. Baby or not....who knows what other lies you may create to destroy his life.

Filing a false police report is a crime. Be honest especially if your conscience is nagging you. Also get the heck out of a relationship that is abused especially since you are prego. No one deserves to be mistreated.

You sound like a victim of domestic violence and mental abuse.
Your family can see the situation more clearly and honestly then you can, if they believe you to be a victim of abuse, you probably are. You could be in denial and make excuses for the abuser, take care of yourself and your Baby, let your family handle this matter for you and stop worrying.
