Get an engine cleaner. They make a chemical specifically for cleaning the interior of the engine, (lifters, springs, valve covers, oil pan, etc). I can't remember what it's called but you bring you engine up to temperature, pour it in and run the engine for about 20 minutes. Then you change the oil. Any auto part store should have it.

It sounds like you have a tarnished, or a piece of carbon stuck in the lifter. You can put Trans fluid in your oil and try that, it won't hurt anything. I usually put in 1/2 qt in. If its a little overfull, It won't hurt anything. Trans Fluid will work on the tarnish, and may free up that lifter.

Tranny fluid has a completely different chemical makeup. I would VERY STRONGLY advise AGAINST doing this. It will glaze the surfaces of the engine almost like a varnish and cause ALL kinds of havoc.

REPLACE THE LIFTER. Like the other writer said, it isnt hard.

I've never had success with that. If you change out the oil enough to get it really clean(twice in a row, after you get it warmed up and circulated really good) and don't have too high detergent oil, sometimes it will pump back up on its own. They're still not all that expensive or hard to change.
