I would suggest holding onto it at least till after the holiday. If they get back together then she would just need to purchase it again. Plus, what if he shows up at your house with a present for her, if she already returned his then she is going to feel bad. I would wait till Dec. 26

Return the gift and let you daughter know that is the smartest thing to do. During the time from Thanksgiving to just after Valentines day you don't want to be in a relationship. Those are the off season of dating. Wait till the end of Febuary and then there is the summer. So return the gift and pass on the words of wisdom.

well she's your daughter. I'd go and confert her. save the christmas gift for christmas. So SHE broke up with him huh? well that's a big step she took. She dosn't want him huh? well ok that's a good deal for her. Say stuff to her like "I'm proud of you, you found out that he's not right for you, you made that decision, and I'm happy you decided to end it before it became useless to you" She'll greatly appriciate a father who's on her side and giveing her the confedence that she did a good decision. Encourage her to showing that she did a good thing, and that he wasn't all that great anyways. If thier still friends then I'd wouldn't ask her to return the preset. She still wants the relationship, she just dosn't want to be in a certain relationship.

It really depends on the gift. If it's something personal or expensive that only a girl would give her boyfriend (a watch, cologne, an iPod), I'd return the gift so as not to give off any weird vibes.

Try to offer support without inserting your opinion. Avoid comments about the future and finding someone better. Take her out for a pedicure and back off being mom for 15 minutes and be her friend. She'll recover - but when you are 17, everything is the end of the world.

Return it. No way should that guy get a gift for breaking up. now if they were tight friends and going out was to just try it, then yeah she should give it to him as a friend

That should be totally up to her but she really needs to think about it...if she gives it too him he might not take the break up seriously but if she takes it back and he shows up with a gift is she going to feel stupid for not having anything for him...If it was me I would have something small for him just in case but not initially give him anything.

I suppose it really depends. If it ended amicably, sure, why not. He'll probably give her a gift too.
If it didn't, and seeing him again would cause her some sort of pain, I'd say no, just return it.

You should leave it up to her to decide, they could get back together by Christmas and then her gift will be gone!
