Dobermans are prone to canine acne, on their chin and muzzle..and they often have flakes from dry skin. Otherwise, they may have any of the skin conditions that are common among all breeds, such as allergies..

It can be down to diet, some breeds seem to be susceptible to food allergies and intolerances.
Best steps are to make sure you feed a closed formula food so that you can determine what is causing the problem. By this I mean the ingredients should be explicitly stated such as dried chicken meat rather than "meat by-products", and rice rather than "cereal". Otherwise you don't know what's in the food from week to week. If you know what's in the food you can carry out an elimination process to find the cause.
Another thing that helps skin and coat problems is linoleic acid. You can get supplements for this but you will find this in complete dog foods. The thing to look for is how much there is because a lot of companies will only add as much as is needed by law to be named a "complete" food.
Nutro Choice dog foods, for example, typically have 3% to 4% which is a very good amount. I'm sure there are others out there which have the same but a lot of others tend to be around 1%.

Yes many of them do.
Blue dobermans almost all of them end up with alopecia which is a hair loss over most of the body and they all get sort of scaly and flakey. It has to do with the color of the dog. Blue is the ressevie gene of black and tan in dobermans and most have the hair coat problems.
The fawn ones have it also. Sometimes the reds do to.
I have had dobermans for 17 years and had a red who had skin problems like mad. He had pimples on his back and thin hair when he was young. About three that got better but he would have a rash on his belly on and off. We had a topical creme we used on him for that. We tried all sorts of allergy testing and could never find out what caused it. So we treated it as we needed to.
But yes dobermans do and can have skin problems.

Yes, and for several reasons. If the color of the coat is blue or fawn they are predisposed for skin or coat problems. There are allergies, to grass, galvanized wire/panels, mites and many more.
You did not specify what your problem is so it could be a number of things.
I have a Chow X and he has lost most of his hair. His color is somewhere between fawn and red. No mites, had that checked. So it has to be some kind of allergy or his predisposition to the skin problems.

if its dry skin try adding oil to the diet. pet stores sell it, my dog was going nuts and it helped her in a couple of days. Also put a corti-care on her to help with the itch.
