I think everybody else answered your question very well, I just wanted to give you an FYI about something...
Recently a female contracted Herpes from a bikini wax (it was in the news everywhere!!!
Sometimes people who wax take the stick they use and dip it back in the wax to take care of another area.
I'm not trying to scare you, but when you go ask for a new stick and a NEW UNOPENED CASE OF WAX.
This will prevent any mishaps. It's painful...but you'll get over the initial pain within about 20 minutes. You'll have soreness for about a day after that. You'll also experience redness, but the person who does the waxing should give you something to relieve the redness and something to prevent bumps.
Best wishes!

They use the melted warm thick wax. It does hurt. But it's like having a baby. It hurts but when you see the results, you will love it. The costs depend of the place you go. I guess you can call a few places in your area and ask how much it is. If you really want one, go for it. It's not like you are going to die from a bikini waxing. :)

All salon are different on the type of wax. It does not feel good but remember it is a sensation that you don't feel every day so you may be confusing serious pain with a new sensation. At my salon it is $20-$40. I personally would never shave again. I wax my underarms too and will never shave them again. For me I have less ingrown hairs and it does not come back as prickly as shaving.

I've never had it done personally, but I have heard the it is very painful. I know there are several kinds of wax, so it will depend on where you go. The same goes for price. I would say an average price would be about $65, but as in anything, you get what you pay for, so I would definatley go somewhere highly reputable. Ask around and see who's gone where and were they satisfied. Word of mouth can't be wrong! Good Luck!!

depends on the salon...some use sugar wax, some honey, some regular. call and ask. honey has antiseptic properties so that's my personal choice.
yes, it hurts. but seriously only for a second because they pull the wax off REALLY fast. and you're fine before you know it.
cost: mine cost thirty but it really depends on the salon and the area you live in.
the benefits: being able to wear cute little undies and bikinis without embarrassment far outweighs the costs: a few seconds of pain

You first time will hurt, but it is worth it. Make sure you ask the waxer how much experience he/she has, what type of wax will be used, and what type of waxing he/she specializes in. (If you are looking for a Brazilian, I recommend going to a specialty salon, as most waxers do not do a good job on Bazilians). The more you wax, the longer it will take for hair to grow, and the regrowth will be finer. Go to an upscale salon, not your run-of-the-mill hair salon or worse, nail salon. You'll want to go to a salon that offers spa services.

Don't know what kind of wax they use, yes it hurts, but different people feel different levels of pain...personally, after my first time, I don't really notice the pain. Its worth the pain (I think)...it looks way good, nice and smoother than with shaving. Yes you can shave, but it takes longer and of course there's always a risk of getting nicked, which I don't think you want down there...I pay $60 which is the average around this area (NYC metro)...well worth it...

I hear that it hurts like a b!@#$, but completely worth it. They use really hot wax and it depends on where you go as to how much money it is. I reccommend splurging and going to a real spa with professionals because they have experience and know the best way to relax you!

It hurts alot.. but you can get topical creams that will dull the pain. Ask your waxer for reccomendations. They are not cheap, but you only use a little.. the tube lasts forever. Also, take Ibuprofin before hand. It will numb the pain and help with swelling. Use a topical cream afterwards that is designed to help prevent ingrown hairs, like bikini zone
