At the first sign of a cold I put perioxide in my ears and leave it there for about 5 minutes in each air. I read on an alternative medicine website that it helps to kill any germs that are in your ears. I do this 2-3 times for the first day or two of a cold. It's also good for getting rid of ear wax.
I currently have a virus and using a hot air humidifier has helped. I also am taking lots of vitamin C & zinc and drinking lots of water to thin out the nasal secretions.
If you are congested at night, you can try a nasal spray to help you sleep. I hope you feel better soon. This is day 7 of my cold and this is the first day I have hardly any congestion.

Tylenol cold and flu is the best I've tried...it takes away all the symptoms immediately. It won't 'cure' the flu, but nothing can. Tylenol will allow you to move on with your day and you'll feel healthy.

For muscle aches you pretty much have to go for something like Tylenol or Advil. Not much in the Natural medicine cupboard for that. Once you get the cold there's lots of things you can do, but make sure that's what you've got and not something more serious.

For a cold, take airbourne right away (OTC) and for flu Oscillococcinum, a homeopathic flu remedy. I also tend to think the zinc lozenges do help.

If you are in the first 24 hours of your first flu symptoms, I recommend Sambucol. It is a natural antiviral and is available at health-food stores. It will help reduce your symptoms quickly and shorten the length of your illness.

my advice, which seems to work for me is a few things-> a good multivitamin is always good-helps kick it a little quicker i think. theraflu works pretty well but tastes awful. overall i'd say tea with honey is really the best-keeps you warm and keeps your throat from getting too sore..
