How are they going to go about making illegal immigrants pay all of their back taxes?

Would anyone believe these people were actually giving an accurate report of their income?

Many of these people work under the table and also engage in illegal means to make money. I'm sure there are a few who could prove by some means they were here and basicly led a honest life. But in this search, I'm afraid they are also going to find tons of people with multiple identies, multiple crimes, previous deportations, and we're still going to be facing the issue of anchor babies. Then there's the issue of legal immigrants using a relatives anchor babies to get the Earned Income Credit illegally. Or multiple families living in a single dwelling yet gaining wic and other federal funds by claiming only 1 adult income and so one. It could open a nasty can of worms....how many times and how many different instances are we "forgiving" for? How many legal citizens are going to be willing to vouch for some of these people if it means incriminating themselves in illegal things? My husbands boss would claim he never laid eyes on you before, if it ment he would get in trouble for his hiring practices.

How many "sanctuary" churches are going to be housing those that just broke 1 too many laws to qualify for amnesty and how many tear jerking "just wanted a better life" stories are we to "overlook" while our own citizens are in jail for doing less?

The IRS has a hard enough job keeping tabs on those of us here legally! I cannot imagine them being able to cope with upwards of 12 million with no tax history.

By the way, please can we stop with all this rot about illegals paying their taxes? Some do, for sure. However, many of those use multiple SSNs to pay as little as possible. So all this talk about refunds never being received is complete nonsense. There are also many illegals who never pay a penny piece in tax. As a compromise, I could live with granting amnesty to those who have paid taxes on ALL their income using the ITIN, provided they are guilty of no other crimes and provided they paid up before President Bush announced proposals for a guest worker program. Anyone else has committed, at least, two crimes - illegally entering the USA and evading taxes. We do not need criminals immigrating here.

It would be a complicated process. Odds are that they would require illegal immigrants that were amnestied to report how long they had lived in the U.S., and then some tables would be developed to estimate how much in untaxed income they made during that time period, and back taxes would have to be paid on that. Most of the back taxes will likely come in terms of payroll taxes (ie social security and medicare taxes), paid by both the illegal immigrant and by the businesses that hired them. Odds are there wouldn't be much in the way of back state and federal taxes to be paid, since most illegal immigrants, if they had filed tax returns, would have had a large enough standard deduction to cancel out their income. Hopefully the government would be smart enough not to make things like Earned Income Credit retroactive in this way, otherwise the Feds could end up paying out to newly amnestied individuals.

Don't give em any wiggle room to negotiate. The Right Answer on illegal immigration is deportation. Send the people home, they can fix their own country. No taxation, because that would imply representation, just send em home and have done with it.

Also, since illegal immigration is more than just about Mexico, or just about hispanics, it's not racism, as your nickname would seem to imply you think it is, but rather it's about systematic breaking of the law. Immigration laws, and labor laws, were written for a reason. The sooner they're observed, upheld, and enforced, the sooner the whole business will dry up, and blow away. Send em home...

I would say the key is to systematically audit specific industries where the use of illegal immigrant workers is most prevalent. These audits should focus on the companies that hire them. If the companies are using workers without the proper tax information, they should be punished. Let's face it, your right about back taxes for the immigrants but why not attack the problem at its source?

Those illegal aliens do get tax refunds the smart ones do. They do have a tax id number that is designed for this purpose. But again excuses are made about their inability to take advantage of this program. It's always everyone else's fault that illegals didn't do this, didn't know you get no reward from supplying false information. Nobody explained it to them. Where was the better life package at once they slipped in ?

Not that I support the illegals, but do legals actually give an accurate report of their income?

I agree with Mendi8. But I also do not think the IRS should repay this. I think it should just equal out. How would anyone be able to pay taxes because there is no way to tell how much they made where and how long they worked. So that is just idiotic.

They won't have to pay back taxes. Granting amnesty gives forgiveness of any tax debts they may have had. The same applies for a illegal who marries an american. After all paperwork has been filed and they have paid there fees, done their interview, filed their waiver of inadmissability and been given their visa they are forgiven of back taxes and do not have to pay them.
