Not if youre wanting to steer clear of dyes altogether. In order to make hair lighter, you have to use a product that "lifts"....meaning that it removes pigment from the hair to make it lighter. I am not aware of anything "non-dye" that will lift color other than the lemon juice/sun, and that will dry your hair out pretty badly.
I would consult your cosmetologist.
Just a note: If you use Henna on your hair, and then go to perm it, it will FRY your hair, I DON'T recommend it. Besides, it will just turn your hair orangey-red; you won't get the highlights you desire.

Mix food coloring (20-30 drops) with 1 cup of hydrogen peroxide (about 50 cents at WalMart or a local drugstore) and 1/2 cup of water.
Let it sit in your hair for 30 minutes to an hour (for a REALLY dramatic look you can leave it longer...peroxide doesn't harm the hair!!! :))
Use yellow for a blonde dye...and mix red, blue and yellow for black or brown.
Best wishes!

When you change you hair color you are adding something to it to change it.
My hair is brown with red & blonde undertones. When I use lemon juice it bring out the undertones more vividly. It also stings my scalp so I haven't done it in years.
here is a link that might be of interest.

My mother had an atricle using flowers for all kinds of stuff. I remember something sbout Merrigolds, boiling them to make a sort of tea and rinseing your hair in that then going out in the sun for activation.
the article I just gave is pretty good stuff. I don't know what color your hair is but it covers most colors.
And FWY people using perixide is dangerous. You can asphixiate. Take care.

lemon juice works if you can sit out in the sun. Hydrogen peroxide also works - just brush it on where you want the highlights. You'll have to do it several times.

Absolutely! But you'll need the sun! Spritz some lemon, freshly squeezed, onto your hair. Starting with the roots, work your way down... then lay out in the sun.

Lemon juice is temporary and doesn't work on all types/colors of hair. You need to sit out in the sun with it on. And do NOT get it in your eyes! OUCHIES

A bottle of sun-in is similar to lemon juice...you don't even need the sun, you can use a blow dryer. careful not to use too much at first, brown haired people are prone to orange-ness

Buy a frosting kit at a drug store. Wear the cap, pull the areas to be frosted thru and put the mixture on and wait 20 minuets.
